Our salvation is about here and now. Faith in God is the value we place upon that which encourages us to do all that is asked of us, by that which lives within us inviting us to trust Him to lead us through our life's journey of self discovery. Those nudges, inspirations, and coincidental meetings that change our life's direction, or reverse our earlier decisions can suggest that there is much more going on in our life than our senses can readily grasp.
“Then why do you want to know?"
"Because learning does not consist only of knowing what we must or we can do, but also of knowing what we could do and perhaps should not do.”
― Umberto Eco, The Name of the Rose
In an age of instant gratification patience is a virtue lacking in many, in its desire to deliver that which we value for its willingness to contribute thoughtful examination, meriting perseverance leading to a more rewarding and happy life questioning all that faces us as if to say, take this road, not the other.
Observing the flows of life encourages us to learn from others all that is worth doing, and that which is best left undone.
Our experiences teach us that there will be moments in the life of every human person when life intervenes offering us a refreshing stop at a wayside inn enabling us to ponder on our past life, resting in anticipation of resuming our journey of self discovery, having understood that our life's lessons have equipped us with sufficient experience to guarantee that our passage remains secure. Or, so we like to believe.
Our advanced age can deceive us into believing that our experiences are more than adequate to deal with any obstacle blocking our path. The school of hard knocks often intervenes to remind the egotistical person that their advanced intelligence, and many experiences can crumble in the face of overwhelming adversity testing our resolve that we know it all.
Our sense of inadequacy is never lost on those of us never losing sight of our many limitations when faced with that which in late life teaches us that we have much to learn, more so when believing that we had learnt all worth learning.
"I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God."
~ 1 Corinthians 2:3–5
