In an imperfect world there is good reason to believe that change for the better begins with us, rather than in believing that we deserve to be treated better.
Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself ~ Leo Tolstoy
Our bathroom mirror can delude us into believing that all we are, is what we prefer to see; including our behaviour.
It is easy and convenient to discover fault in others while remaining unconcerned with our own concealed flaws. It is through our every day interactions with our fellow traveller that we identify our own shortcomings, leading us to recognise that our own behaviour needs attention before assuming that we can sit in judgement on others who do not measure up to our expectations.
Love of our neighbour, love of God is never an academic pursuit for it is sown in the field of human relationships wherein each of us confronts our own hidden flaws begging for change, the result of learning that we must put right that which needs our active daily attention, before assuming that we have a self bestowed right to judge others worthy of our contempt.
Self improvement takes us a life time, then we die. In the meantime we come to terms with the experience of living that no one is perfect, except God.
“A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault.”― John Henry Newman
