A purpose filled life is never lost on those who choose to sacrifice something of who they believe they are, that they may discover more of who they are becoming, assisting those who by chance enter their orbit to unmask the person concealed behind the reflection that their mirror image presents to the world. No exceptions for they means, us.
“A man who becomes conscious of the responsibility he bears toward a human being who affectionately waits for him, or to an unfinished work, will never be able to throw away his life. He knows the "why" for his existence, and will be able to bear almost any "how".”
― Victor Frankl
Went your day well may well be an affectionate greeting to our friends, acquaintances, neighbours and all who enter our daily life with a willingness to remain on friendly terms. Whereas sacrifice of oneself is another matter, for it entails our free choice to go beyond words by sharing something of value, demonstrating our involvement in the lives of people who benefit when we share something of our excess that addresses their needs.
It is no secret that the cross/crucifix symbolises sacrifice of that which we value; also a meeting point where cross roads intersect, enabling life's traveller to witness the deprivation of many living in lack of that which we take for granted.
Jesus' reply to the question, what is the greatest commandment, invited us to love God, and our neighbour. It is no secret that the divine presence alive in the life of every human person provides us with the opportunity to love God, as well as our neighbour.
14 A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter:
he that has found one has found a treasure.
15 There is nothing so precious as a faithful friend,
and no scales can measure his excellence.
16 A faithful friend is an elixir of life;
and those who fear the Lord will find him.
