There are days when events appear to conspire against us, as if we were being punished for our failings, our misplaced perceptions by another description. By yet another it could also be argued that our perception of what lies before us is responsible for our feelings of distress, and easy choice to surrender to our fear that the task ahead is beyond our competence to resolve.
The news media provides the news junkie with all that they will need to feed their habit that the world is falling to pieces, and that there is no hope left. My father spent five years serving with The Army in North Africa between 1940/1945 knowing that life could only get better...and did, when finally the war ended, and he returned home to live in peace.
If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment. ― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
How we look at life determines our response to every challenge that life presents to us to grow us out of our lethargy. We can spend our time at home looking at life through television newscasts, and computer access to newspapers informing us that stepping outside our front door may lead us into dangerous waters filled with the unknown, calculated to destroy our right to live our life in peace.
Looking on the bright side enables us to understand that behind every cloud there is a remedy waiting patiently for us to let time, and our determination to work at resolving our dilemmas produce the results that will return harmony to our life.
"If the highest aim of a captain were to preserve his ship, he would keep it in port forever." --Thomas Aquinas
One of the most numerous, and shortest passages in Holy Scripture...Fear not...invites us to step out into the deep, experiencing all that life has on offer to grow us into a fearless warrior well able to assist others lacking our confidence that all will be well, when we grasp the hand of The Saviour leading us through the ebbs, and flows of our life's journey.
The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
~ Psalm 121:7-8
