When we feel powerless in the face of adversity it serves no useful purpose to pretend that we are in control. Coming to terms with reality requires the rational person to accept that help is needed to be able to surmount the hardship that appears irresolvable.
An impending calamity will more often, or not inspire the weary person to cry out to God asking for help that will resolve their dilemma, despite having spent their life believing that they were more than able to deal with the routine challenges that life grants us to encourage us to become the master of our destiny.
“Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.” – C. S. Lewis
Our Father is well aware that a day will arrive when each of us will face an overwhelming challenge that reduces us to begging for assistance. Acknowledging ones inadequacy is never an easy matter for those led by the nose into believing that ones ingenuity will always provide the remedy for every occasion.
Embracing humility provides the desperate person with an understanding that they are not alone facing the trial that has crushed their sense of invulnerability.
Our complete surrender to the will of the Divine Presence enables the defeated person to hear, and listen patiently to the advice that begins to flow in to their conscious awareness, providing them with the panacea that will redress their misfortune.
“God has infinite attention to spare for each one of us. You are as much alone with him as if you were the only being he had ever created.” – C. S. Lewis
Naked before God ensures that the supplicant understands that they have placed their well being entirely in the hands of Our Father for the remainder of their life.
“There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, "Thy will be done," and those to whom God says, in the end, "Thy will be done." All that are in Hell, choose it. Without that self-choice there could be no Hell. No soul that seriously and constantly desires joy will ever miss it. Those who seek find. Those who knock it is opened.” ~ C. S. Lewis
