Humbling oneself is never an easy decision in the face of an arrogant, and over bearing person determined to abuse those whom they wish to ridicule to satisfy their sense of superiority.
Humility is not a weakness, rather our free choice not to repay an offensive person with the same coin, that they choose to impose upon those they deem sufficiently patient to bear with their insults.
Strength of character is a feature of the wise, and secure person whose self esteem restrains them from emulating the behaviour of those demonstrating contempt for others.
Self value can only be measured, and understand by how we treat others, especially those who stand guilty of having mistreated the weak, and defenceless.
Change for the better begins with us, before believing that we are in a position to judge others worthy of our self righteous contempt.
If you plan to build a tall house of virtues, you must first lay deep foundations of humility. ~ Augustine
