Romans 12:2
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
It has been often said that change for the better can happen only when we finally acknowledge that we need God's help, to enable us to surpass the overwhelming trial that is currently consuming us.

Our willingness to humbly beg for help from God, opens our life to receiving the guidance that Our Father provides to all in our time of greatest need.
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you ~ Matthew 7:7
People have asked me when is the appropriate time to approach God for help. I have answered that we should not wait until exhausting all of our options, leaving God as the only remaining choice. Ask for The Saviour's assistance early in the day that He may offer us a remedy before the dilemma destroys our self confidence rendering us unable to move out of our pit of self imposed misery.
I Waited Patiently for the LORD
1 For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; He inclined to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay; He set my feet upon a rock, and made my footsteps firm. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.… ~Psalm 40
