Following a traffic accident the police invite witnesses to come forward and state their recollections. The police prefer to have as many witness statements as possible so that they can build up enough evidence to give them a broader, more realistic version of events. In a traffic accident there will be many different perspectives on what happened. The driver of one car will have one view another driver, or a passenger will have yet another view. Each onlooker who witnessed the accident will have a slightly different perspective, depending on where they were, how far they were from the incident, how good a view they had, what else was going on, how much danger they felt they were in, how the accident affected them, what the accident means to them....in other words, each witness will provide the police with their testimonies stating categorically who they believe was at fault...
Our perceptions create our interpretations...
“Life as we know it is our perception of reality.”~Benjamin A. McKinney
It has been said that the search for truth is always a matter of reaching beyond our interpretation of our life's experiences...only to realise that our truth is often at odds with those who believe that they monopolise the truth...
Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”
Here lies the dilemma for the theist who despite not being able to provide black, and white evidence that justifies our beliefs...our faith is the result of embracing the divine mystery's ongoing intervention in our lives...never the outcome of a persuasive intellectually driven argument.
We wildly overestimate our access to our own mind while debating the question that most of us assume we are well adjusted, rational human beings attempting to make sense of the apparent chaos that surrounds us. It can also be argued that striving for perfect rationality is just as delusional as our endeavour to make sense of that which is beyond the comprehension of human life when attempting to rationalise the existence of the divine mystery.
“There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful, than that of a continual conversation with God; those only can comprehend it who practice and experience it.”~ Brother Lawrence
