that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
Dying to oneself is a constant theme in many religions when addressing the renewal of the human person, an opportunity that presents itself every morning we rise from our bed.
New day, new life.
The Christian perspective that presents itself through rebirth in the care of The Spirit, is an invitation to live as the complete human person.
Holiness is another way of expressing wholeness, or living a healthy life whereby the corruptible flesh, and the eternal spirit abide as one.
Rebirth into new life in the care of The Saviour is never an event, rather a life long process revealed through our daily journey, and our freely chosen commitment to love God, and love our neighbour as our self.
Renewal that leads us to create a happier, and more fulfilling life is the acceptance that we are flawed, and in need of accepting assistance from our creator who in His gracious understanding, and love for all His children embraces every one who answers His appeal...to let Him shepherd us through the rest of our life.
Emily Dickinson's poem addresses the presence of The Holy Spirit in every human person, often represented as a white dove speaking into the ear of those of us who choose to listen too, and follow the call of our greatest friend.
“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.
