And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
The term providence derives from the Latin providentia, signifying foresight that in the context of these words references Divine Providence.
Biblical stories invite us to reflect on the journeys of self discovery written for our benefit when we read how the prophets coped with their passage through life. Abraham, Moses, Samuel, Lot, and Noah are not merely the shared history of a tribal community leaving their birth places to put out into the unknown, rather of their free choice to embrace the guidance of Our Father often with an awareness that their trek through life is also about overcoming their doubts that they could ever surmount the challenges that daily confronted their trust in God.
Joseph's story is one of tragedy, and redemption; sold into slavery by his brothers, eventually becoming the chief minister of the Egyptian king, the result of having provided Pharaoh with the interpretation of his dreams; years of plenty, followed by years of famine leading Pharaoh to accept Joseph's recommendations to plan ahead for leaner times.
Joseph's early years in captivity would enable him to build reserves of patience, and the understanding that his relationship with Our Father had equipped him with gifts that would in due time liberate him from slavery leading him to forgive his brothers, when inviting his family to live with him in his life of sufficiency.
Foresight is understood to be inspired prudence influencing our choices, there being an awareness that within our very being a wise guidance system is in place to lead us through our life's story; when we choose to listen too, and follow our hidden well of wisdom...to do, as He asks.
Psalm 37:3 ESV
Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
