One of the beauties of the simple life is learning that sufficient is enough to quench our thirst to appear more than we need too.
Impressions count for those who dwell on outward appearances there being an awareness for them that the superficial is the very essence of all that speaks to their quest to be noticed and acknowledged by their peers for their achievements living in the right neighourhood, and driving the right car equipped with all accessories that attract the attention of their envious neighbours.
Self deception creeps up on those who gradually, with certainty leading their way deceive themselves into believing that their baubles, and trinkets are the answer to their many frustrations that their prosperity has not rewarded with happiness.
Fashionable, and expensive mobile telephones are more than a jingle, for in the hands of the upwardly mobile they advertise their sense of success...whilst their daily consumption of Xanax, and Prozac enable them to cope with their relentless investment in self achievement.
The casualties of the pursuit of success are those who accumulate stuff to advertise their success in the vain hope that happiness will be their reward.
Ebenezer Scrooge eventually learnt that his growing bank balance did nothing to add value to his pursuit of happiness...until he realised that sharing his abundance with those in need would make his life worthwhile.
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. ~1 Timothy 6:6-8
