Absolutely agree in principle, Alex. We can easily get sucked into a world of 'thinking' and forget the 'doing'.
But describing the product of the academic as 'verbal diarrhea' (especially in a forum that deals with only words and from a very wordy contributor!) is not a balanced perspective.

Seriously? That's a kind of wordy, bulk ad hominem. Some people have a vocation in academics -- not me, I hasten to add! -- and get the balance right.

Some, I dare say, are led by the Spirit to a vocation in study and teaching. For all of us, the work of the mind has to balanced by 'the work of the hands'. We will discover the richness of our faith when, as you say, we 'we sacrifice our time, energy, and everything that is needed to assist those in need'.
So Alex, by way of invitation inspired by your own words, why not tell us, from time to time, some stories about your practical involvements and how they have shaped your faith?
