With all respect for such an eminent Father of the Church, it is such tortured logic!
Like you, somehow we go from 'Neither will I condemn thee' and end up with 'Therefore the Lord did also condemn'.
Jesus didn't say, 'I condemn your sin and not you'. He very specifically set aside any condemnation. Even St Augustine can't change the words and the meaning.
I find Pope Francis way more convincing, way more logical and way more compelling. I'd suggest he would also know a thing or two about Saint Augustine.
