: If you're aware Wikipedia is so erroneous
: regarding Spalding Faz, perhaps you should
: seek to update his entry with your superior
: knowledge.
:
: Wikipedia makes no claim that you can use
: it's opinions about an author to condemn
: that writer in the specific, Catholic Church
: related, way you have. There's no need for
: me to 'update' his entry.
The information on Wikipedia clearly identifies Spalding as holding ideas and engaging in practices we'd now place under the umbrella of "New Age". It may not be academically credible to you or others but I don't think it's a crime to point out the information Wikipedia has provided. Numerous other sources confirm Spalding's "new age" thinking. I have posted several throughout this thread. Similarly I don't think it's a crime to reiterate the Church's teaching on New Age ideas and practices. It's not for me to "condemn" Spalding but it's clear the thinking and practices he espouses are "condemned" in the sense of their incompatibility with Catholic teaching.
:
: No and I never set out to do this.
:
: Clearly you did as you go on to elaborate
: ...
:
: I have
: provided evidence the Church condemns New
: Age ideas and as I just pointed out to Alex*
: Spalding was a member of and his writings
: inspired by the New Thought movement, a
: group that taught ideas that our now
: espoused by modern "New Age"
: proponents.
:
: In short, condemnation by (tenuous)
: association. You don't attempt to provide a
: critical analysis of the words quoted, but
: seek to 'condemn' the man. Pure ad hominem,
: Pete.
It's your opinion that I seek to "condemn" Spalding. I've pointing out the incompatibilty of his ideas with Catholic teaching.
:
: His beliefs and practices are also New Age
: belief and practices. That's the fault. The
: name for these erroneous beliefs and
: practices may change over time but the same
: errant thinking and behaviour is expressed.
:
: In the original quote?
Alex has presented a piece in which he seems to want to impart his views on the correct spiritual and religious life to board readers. He includes in this a quote from Spalding which also contains prescriptions. I have attempted to point out that prescriptions by and emanating from Spalding's thinking could well be deeply flawed, in the light of Catholic teaching (this IS a Catholic discussion board!) given the "new age" ideas that Spalding held and practiced. If readers decided to investigate Spalding's ideas and writings further and attempt to "listen to the inner voice" as prescribed by Spalding it's very likely they go down a path of new age thinking and practice that is erroneous. I've attempted to make the reader aware of this for their own good according to my beliefs and knowledge. Consider it a public and Christian service. You're welcome!
:
: As I have shown above, it's not just my
: "opinion".
:
: I don't think you've done that at all (fwiw
: my opinion)
:
: My problem is the "inner voice"
: referred is quite possibly "ascended
: master Jesus" or some other demonic
: entity.
:
: Even the term 'quite possibly' gives it
: away, Pete. It's your opinion and 'quite
: possibly' is tentative at best. It's not
: even 'probably'.
:
: So to clarify I'm saying it's a matter of
: opinion whether Alex is eager to defend
: Freemasonry. Get it?
:
: What you're saying is clear, Pete. I just
: don't think your opinion is right in this
: case. Get it?
No.
Pete
