There is an old saying in the Church: “From them to whom much has been given, much will be required.” One application of that is to be found in priestly formation and in the subsequent lives of priests. They have been given much – Philosophy, Dogmatic Theology, Moral Theology, Ecclesiology, Church History et cetera - that gives them a much better grounding in the Faith than the ordinary pew-dweller. Much will therefore be required of them. So many of them appear to have forgotten that – priests, bishops, cardinals, and even the Pope? The actions and sayings of many of them appear to indicate that they don’t believe that an accounting of what is required of them will have to be made on that fateful day that with every passing second draws closer.
