I agree: the Church really must stop flirting with popular, but fallacious, ideologies, but I can’t see it happening under the current Pope. Sure, one can mount an argument in regard to most of the Pope’s statements that thrill the anti-Catholic media, that he is not really stating erroneous doctrine, but such arguments are peremptorily ignored by those whose itching ears cause them to be constantly on the lookout for novelties, particularly when they appear to indicate that the Church is taking a softer line than its traditional stance. Unfortunately, the Pope’s words so often give the lukewarm a sense of anticipation that the Church is about to change its doctrine. They raise expectations of change, and expectations are all that many need to abandon one more plank of Catholicism.
