OK fair enough, but why do you 'bag' Catholics who prefer a more traditional style of worship, ie smells and bells? Why reduce their faith and worship to just smells and bells?
The use of incense goes way back to OT times, even gifts of frankincense to Our Lord suggests merit in it.
Connection with the past right down to the time of the Apostles gives depth, and IMO, more meaning than other liberal liturgical practices .
