He could feel it with every day that passed, every second of every minute. The imminent doom that was going to befall the Element. Ariel had returned to him, spending moments with him after his recovery. Sometimes she returned to Ni, this time, she would not. She pressed against his side, a full grown mare in every aspect, another year had gone by. Where did the time go? He huffed into his neck, breathing in her hot arid smell from the desert sands. He smiled softly, water dripping from his body onto hers and vice versa. "Daughter." She tilted her head towards him, looking like her mother more and more. Questions were in her eyes, ears pricked as if she might be missing something. God he could feel it, the thrum in his veins of oracle magic. "It is time." He would send her off, perhaps he would stay and watch the show and perhaps he would leave soon. He was still indecisive in his decision.
He lipped at her mane, lightly cutting off the "but.." that started to come from her lips. "Do not argue child. The Element will die and I will not allow you to die with it." And she knew that he would use the elements against her if he had to so she could escape. "Escape while you can." "A part of me must live on." He thinks to himself. His daughter was too good, too pure, too happy to be stuck here with him.
He pressed butterfly kisses to her face like he used to do when she was young. She laughed softly tossing her head as his whiskers tickled her. "If you find your mother before I do, tell her I love her." And he knew then that he would not be leaving the element. Marshall would stay amongst the forest of Desreal and watch the show. He would know the ending to the element, he would watch it while knowing his daughter was safe. He would give Saphira the best gift he could, no more of his involvement or the tension between them because he loved her more than he should and she couldn't love him enough. He closed his eyes briefly to clear away the sudden light so his daughter wouldn't know. "I love you my daughter." He says. Fishing a deep shell from his own mane he presses it into his daughter's mane, next to the one that Huyana had given her. "Go."
He nudges her off. "Do not linger in the Element." He doesn't say the goodbye that is on his lips, instead he watches until he can no longer see her and then he turns.
He is not searching long, praying to the Elementals that she makes it free from the incoming doom. He finds them, is unsure how, see the explosion of shards from muscles and sinew. He sees the blood splatter upon the foliage. He winces, watches with awe not far away, hidden beneath the trees. His magic reaches out to heal, to touch them and heal the gaping wounds they now all had, but then the Shards were One. And his last fleeting thoughts were of Saphira and Ariel, his eyes remembering memories instead of the sudden explosion of flames that incinerated his body.
