asylum overtime, nevermind...you've reached the end of the line"
He stands in Desreal to watch, to observe the sense of pervasive doom which overshadows the place.
Something is going to happen, and it is going to rewrite everything that Cyan thinks he knows, and part of him has a tremendous sense of this and so he waits with that objective curiosity, on three legs with his acidic emerald eyes watching with that selfsame omnipresent calmness.
His gaze is drawn to something huge and flaming coming from Ni Srilan and he knows at once what it is. He sees the explosion – the tremendous mushroom-cloud that defies all explanation and expectation – and draws a breath, as the heated air accelerates the reactions taking place on his skin and cause great clouds of smoke to rise from him. And then there is nothing. Nothing but ashes raining down from the heavens, embers, smoldering tree trunks and charred grass. “Dad…” he murmurs.
He walks into the center of the concentric rings of ashes, and the sheer electrical energy of the place makes his chemical skin crawl.
“What is this?” he asks, with all of the perplexity of one who just discovered something brilliant yet could not articulate it into terms that adhered to necessary facts.
He bows his head, sniffs at a patch of embers.
“I won’t bother to explain it to you, for you couldn’t comprehend it if you tried.” A voice catches Cyan’s attention and his striking black and green head shoots up. He narrows his eyes at the enormous reptilian form that stands behind him, leathery wings folded and pale eyes apocalyptic in their eerie calmness.
“What do you mean?”
“You are intelligent, but you are a colt. Your pretense is the infallibility of scientific observation, but you don’t know all the facts. You know only what should happen. But what should happen and what does happen are two completely separate things, Cyan.” Kurai takes a slow step toward Cyan, who struggles for a rebuke but finds none. “You can only observe from a measured distance for so long. I offer you true reason, true wisdom,” Kurai lurches forward and presses his muzzle against Cyan’s shoulder, aware of the tremendous enthalpic energy pulsating just beneath his nose. “Run. Leave. Abandon your world while you have the chance.”
He draws back and takes a step away, leaving Cyan watching him with something between defiance and confusion.
“Either accept the logic of a creature whose very existence stymies you, or die. But you don’t have much time.” Kurai glances back over his scaly shoulder once, and then, lurching off of coiled haunches, vanishes into the crumbling ruins of the trees.
Cyan heeds his advice. He passes Ni Srilan and keeps going. An awareness, if for a second, of something greater than cruel logic keeps my young Enthalpy alive.
