for even to think wrongly
is better than not to think at all."
It was because of Fei that Hypatia was who she was. Oh, how life would be different had Fei not passed her Diadem along.
Hypatia hopes she did Fei proud. She’s not sure she wants to here the answer though.
The birds are singing, and The Naphtha finds herself moving from her desert home, quicker and quicker and quicker until she’s in the Glade wondering what it is that called her here. These birds, they sound so familiar. It’s been so long though. So long that she’s unsure of how old she was when she last heard them, or where.
And then she remembers and she is running.
She can see Fei, looking just the same as when she left. Young, beautiful, compassionate, carefree. Hypatia runs towards the mare, as if her speed and the bird’s calls could take all the bad things away that happened and make life beautiful again. But the end is coming: the scholars can feel it, and Hypatia feels broken under its weight. How many have died since Fei left? So many. Too many.
“Fei.”
She doesn’t care if she isn’t real. For now, this is what she needs.
