Her realization.
“You came back.”
His realization.
She comes back and he remembers. Though he forgets some things as well. He forgets the Element and all the horses in it because he has been gone for so long that it just isn’t the same anymore. All his children (his strange lovers) they aren’t here. There is only Fei here and that – perhaps – is the only reason the rook has found it’s way back to the familiar branches that held him. He can’t say that he’s missed her because the words aren’t enough. So instead, he embraces her, still timid at first like always before. Yet when he feels her underneath his feathery touch he sinks into her and sighs.
“My Fei…” He says. Eyes closed. Breath slow. Content.
“Don’t leave me.” He says. But she knows that what he really means is; Don’t leave without me.
