He staggered into the rogue lands, his own punishment for failing. His eyes were mostly white and wild, his mind unable to comprehend the pain from his stomach, from the blistered wound in his haunch. He had been lucky and it ravaged his mind and heart to know that this was perhaps his fault. He had not done enough for Solira and now they had all paid for it. In his dim thoughts he hoped that no one had died, that was all that he asked for. He did not remember falling over the fallen trees, didn't remember the blood that seeped now from the scratches on his legs, his body from the branches as they pulled at him. So when he finally fell he did not move. His breathing was hard and labored as he pulled his legs beneath him, ignoring the protesting pain from his legs and his muscles. His heart and mind felt numb even as his body screamed at him in pain. He heard the soft voices of two and wasn't sure if he was hearing them in his head or with his ears. He laid his head upon the dirt, the leaves rustling beneath him. There was no power left within him, not even enough to call upon Water to come and soothe him.
But Kolun was there, chattering softly to Ariel, the only other one that he allowed his thoughts to be shared with so intimately. She winced, her own wounds from the hellcats etched in her skin and the skin burnt from her body in some places. She reached down to touch her unconscious father gently, hoping he wasn't dreaming of burning eyes and ripping fangs. Solira had fallen so hard that it was amazing any of them had survived. Every time she closed her eyes she saw their eyes and their fangs, ready to leap from their crouch to attack her. She shuddered, eventually settling in next to him, her own Water soothing them both as she drew it from the air, the plants and the ground, keeping a rough circle so nothing died. She laid her head across his shoulders, only moving when he shuddered in his unconscious sleep. She wished she could help but she could not. "He's going to take this so hard." She murmured, the mare-child, having reached her third year not long ago. She felt Kolun's whiskers on her face and smiled slightly as he whispered about keeping watch. The night had been so physically and emotionally hard that she could not stay awake any longer.
When they were both dreaming uneasy dreams, Kolun settled near them, using his body and his senses to detect any that approached. And he sighed softly, knowing that his friend's mind was going to be very rough for a long time.
