Pride, many times, was a waste of energy and time. It often made fools of its guards, and it only stood in the way of potential. No, Huyana was smarter than that, she was not so easily governed by such petty, useless things. She did what was best for her, what was logical and reasonable. She was no martyr, no saint by any means. But she didn’t need healing, Marshall had seen to that, what remained would slowly fade only with time’s aid. The pain was slight though, she could ignore it, her water helped numb it.

You were always crazy like that
I watched from my window
Always felt I was outside looking in on you
In case you failed to see
This is my heart bleeding before you
This is me down on my knees
He was always slow to answer. She wondered if he did it on purpose, for suspense or effect. Or was he so cautious to give answers to her? She asked difficult things, she reminded herself, and his reply when it came revealed this truth as his voice was tense. She had meant no wrong, but it was a topic that would sting no matter the care. But his reply was enough. Had she known him better she wouldn’t have had to ask at all, knowing how absorbed Nicodemus was with his family and rescuing those around him, from him at times. But she did not know him well enough, not yet.
That he told her he couldn’t answer such a vast question, she only nodded in understanding, though gripped helplessly into the dark for a better query. She knew so little she could barely ask, and she struggled for a bit in stumbling quiet before dripping more words from her maw. ”Why are the shards so feared? How do they effect us?”
Your thoughtless words are breaking my heart
You're breaking my heart
