A chill wind catches his attention first, and it speaks to him.
This pulls Cyan’s mind entirely away from thoughts of his grandfather – wind, you see, is not supposed to change temperature abruptly, nor is it supposed to speak in any way, shape, or form.
He is quickly growing to hate Desreal – in a very melodramatic way it makes him feel as if everything he knows is a lie, and Cyan knows a lot.
Cyan doesn’t know who this grey mare who speaks through the winter is, but he is interested. He arranges his hooves beneath him, studies her carefully with acidic-green eyes beneath a similarly-colored fringe of mane. “You know him?” he echoes, and somewhere in his mind it figures that the wind-speaking horse would be friends with the ancient dragon-thing that he wouldn’t even believe in if he weren’t related to him. It’s strange to think of Kurai as having “friends,” as well. Cyan is again overwhelmed with curiosity;
He wants to know. More than he wants to live, he wants to know.
Science is a b###h.
“Hunting…” he murmurs, shaking his handsome black head and disturbing the glowing green mane that rests there.
But this mare knows Kurai, which means that, for now at least, the nightmare does exist, which is again in immediate juxtaposition with Cyan’s Everything That Makes Sense.
“My name is Cyan. Kurai’s my grandfather. I’ve met him once. I’ve been trying to find him again, to speak with him, but he seems to prefer finding others to being found himself.” Cyan hasn’t quite figured this out yet, either, nor does he know what he intends to do when he finds Kurai.
Dissect him?
Yeah, that’ll go over well.
“How do you do that, by the way?” he asks, diverting his attention now to the grey mare, shuddering at the cold wind that swirls like midwinter around her. “Speak through the Wind.”
Reality is infinitely stranger than anything the mind can come up with.
break this empty shell forevermore;
