When her children are around her, Aquila cannot help but soften herself. It is as if these likened spirits are together for a reason, though they are so different. It is no universal secret that Stymie is beautiful in every way; she embodies perfection in the nocturnal scenery. Aquila is a handsome thing, but she is a warrior. Stymie is a perfect manipulation of good genes that just happen to be the polar opposite. Aquila, however, is a fighter, and she fights to the death for those around her. She loves Stymie in every possible way that a mare could love her daughter (and yes, there will always be a special place in Aquila’s heart for the dark mare). They met under stressing circumstances – Kurai and Aquila – and Stymie had been the gift of that union, which Aquila, for some reason, could not ever bring herself to regret. If anything, the white mare was certain that she was in some way satisfied with not just her brief affair with Kurai but also with the results. Even as she rested alongside the daughter who so vividly recognized her, the white mare let a smile settle on her lips, her muzzle bending down to gently stroke the neck of the sable, long-legged beauty she had carried and raised. She remembered when Stymie had been born and how Aquila had wanted to take the pain for her when she endured any fall or any injury, wanted to give her anything at all to make her happy. If it were possible, Aquila would have taken whatever burdens had ever been given to her and let her live a happy, fulfilled life. The white mare smiled down at the black, her gaze soft and gentle. How did she get here? Was she really here? Honestly, Aquila’s maternal gaze which rested so adoringly upon the darkly drenched debutante spoke for itself.
”You’ve grown, Stymie,” she said with that smile, the words hushed and whispered only so that her daughter could hear them in their genuine meaning. The muzzle brushes soothingly across the back of the lightning child, sending small trickles of electricity across Aquila’s body. They remind her of Kurai, but she relishes them as her daughter. Her muzzle traced along the lines of Stymie’s body, soothing as best she could as her tender voice emitted to her in a soft, cooing voice. ”And I’ve missed you.” Black and white. They re different in every way, but something certainly connects them in such a powerful way that makes Aquila quite content to stand alongside her daughter. She doesn’t know if Kurai even has anything to do with her, or if he really even cares. All that matters now is that they are together; the world will fit in around them. ”So, what have you been up to around here?” Aquila’s sapphire eyes slide once again over the shadowy companion, and once again the pride, the absolute adoration, and, yes, the love, continues to shine in her eyes. Her heart has never stopped loving Stymie. And it certainly never shall.
