Indeed, like herding a band of cats. J flicks towards the group, but slowly away again, too, taking her own time to arrive. Like smoke curling back on itself in a tangled breeze. Recently J had been thinking a lot of the struggles of the rogues of Ni’Srilan. Perhaps that was why she had come so far from the desert while she was still new. In many ways she thought she should have stayed close in case they needed her (hah!) and to learn the ropes, but she needed a break. Order among the spies was shattering, if it had ever existed, and she had just stepped into the midst of it all without a second thought. Now she was having second thoughts. J wasn’t too sure what she could contribute, but some stability might be nice, as right now it was spiraling out of control. But she was not arrogant enough to think she could do better. No, she would have truly take after Jalilah to do that. That was something she utterly denied. The primrose princess could rest in the tomb J had shut her in within her mind so long ago.
The cute little dapple gray was wandering, head slightly low, seeming to stretch her fine Arabian neck awkwardly, seeming strained without the usual, proud carriage. That was when she spotted one of the horses that had been led away. It was a split second decision whether to approach or run. He probably blamed the spies for his position, and he was right to do so. They were supposed to be able to protect the herd from the espionage of others. Yet they were in a losing slump, it seemed. Rather than run she approached the much larger horse, almost timidly, but without enough worry about his response to be timid, and waited for a few seconds before speaking.
“I am sorry you were taken from Ni’Srilan.” She thought she had seen him being led away. If not, she was making a fool of herself, but then she very barely knew her way around this land yet, so she had to try. She had promised herself to learn all she could. And J didn’t break promises, at least not ones she made to herself. Shaking her steely mane she added sorrowfully, “We are trying to… fix this.” Someday perhaps she could steal back all those they needed, but as of yet it had not worked. Just silly meetings where everyone claimed to know more than the next. “I am called J, by the way. I new spy in the Desert of the Snakes. Maybe one more is all we need.” She wasn’t hopeful, and made little effort to hide it. No, it would take hard crude work to get this body of spies working together like an efficient piece of machinery. For now she could only be an apologist for the cause. Since that wasn’t something she wanted to become, she held her tongue.
