They cruised aimlessly for the third day through the dank misty boundaries of the Glade, rarely passing by another horse to Casper’s disappointment. He didn’t understand the strange shift in his mother’s personality (for she was bubbly and extroverted for days after they first met), but he dared not question her, no less pass judgement. “Um, Mother…” He began slowly, mid-yawn. “When will we head home?” The afternoon was quite balmy and a light sweat shimmered across the clean raven black of his flanks. He knew that should they have been in Andarin… home, this day, Delilah would have taken them deep down below the foothills of the range into the coolness of the gulley.
“I’m sorry son.” Delilah sighed guiltily and she turned then back to meet the colt’s bright gaze. She lumbered back to him and nuzzled affectionately all about his small, bony face. “We will go home soon.” Delilah withdrew her face and looked earnestly upon him. “I promise…” She added finally, and turned once more from him, continuing in the same manner and direction through the overgrown forest.
