Had he known then, at their first meeting, that karma had such a twisted ending for their affair, he may have been able to control himself after all. Her death may be the only one he regrets causing, if only because attracting the attention of a certain wolfish foal has been an endless slew of headaches, and just when he thought he’d slipped the noose (enslaving her with the shard), that whore Karma comes back again smiling.
And this time, bearing gifts.
It is not difficult to discern who comes for him, with a ‘voice’ as unique as hers. But he still cannot comprehend why he could not feel her coming – for a week now his shard has gone silent (though he must admit, there was a sort of freedom to be earned while its incessant whispers were silenced) – but as she draws nearer he can hear it singing shrilly in his head, agonizing as though pained. The closer the wolf draws, the more like ringing it becomes in his ears, and his scar begins to weep blood anew.
He had heard about the plague in Andarin and purposefully avoided it (though his disconnection with Fenris and Nyota had made that a very manual bit of information to discover), but to see her covered beneath the artful brutality of the Elementals was a sight he was not expecting – and even though he knows he will pay dearly for it, he cannot help but offer her a smile and his sympathies.
"It's an improvement, you know." he observes, his voice the poisoning overtones of mercury. He had not heard her first request calling him by another name (or maybe he did, and unconsciously thought nothing of it, having not heard it for so long), but his eyes trail all the same down the abused flesh of her neck to rest on a black, jagged charm. The shard, upon his eye contact with the Relic, rings so loud that the Keeper has to close his eyes against the knife-like concussions that follow. In response, the blood pulsing through the wound intensifies, slipping down his cheek in different channels; dripping thickly to the soil. Betrayal clenches his teeth as he forces his eyes back to her, and does not let his voice reflect the agony in his skull.
"Your timing is obnoxiously impeccable. What infernally annoying thing have you brought me today, Fenris."
