She was scaring him.
Her legs trembled, she couldn’t even hold up her own weight. He snorted, lowering his head beneath her neck in an attempt to keep her upright. When she fell, his legs buckled as well and he laid his lips upon her neck, her blood coating his lips as the scar form. “Oh Saphira.” He whispered, pain in his eyes with seeing her hurt, seeing her bleed. The metallic taste of it coated his tongue eventually and he grimaced but did not wash it away. He laid next to her, shifting onto his side so he could see her easily and touch her body.
He knew that when she said that she loved him, it was not in the same way that he loved her. He could only smile sadly and press his lips up higher on her neck doing as he always did before he spoke. “I love you too Saphira and I am glad you brought me back.” His death had been accidental, completely even though dark thoughts of drowning himself came at night sometimes. Their water rushed up around them, he had given it an extra push creating a water globe similar like the one they had created last time. It surrounded them, giving them peace and quiet.
He felt himself raging against her words. “Dammit Saphira. Watching Solira fall to the hounds again is going to kill me. I cannot let it happen. I refuse to let it happen.” He paused, searching her eyes, seeing the sadness and pain. “Solira is the only place I have ever called home. I cannot let it be destroyed. I do not think I could live without the sea.” Or without you. He thinks but does not tell her nor let her hear. To let her know that his love for her was more than hers would change their whole relationship. He just sighs softly at her stony features, knowing better than to argue with her. “Ozymandias is a fool. If Solira falls, it will be his fault. If she stands, then it will because everyone else worked their asses off.” It was so unlike him to swear.
