They were both alone now. Who did they have? Who did either of them have now? Truly have? Saphira, she would have her Slaves perhaps; and the Naphtha, well she has her people. Her people she cannot seem to protect. They both could hide behind their items, their precious gems of Shard and Relic.
Saphira turns, and Hypatia is saddened to see the corruption already there. And what is she to say? Yes, I knew that. Yes, I remember when Datura bit your daughter. I remember Pirate’s mind. These warriors and spies, they think they understand what it’s like to be an Oracle, they think they understand it all –really, understand it- when it fact, none of them ever knows everything. Oracles cannot see the whole future, no matter what. But Oracles and especially this Oracle in particular, know the truth the moment it appears in someone’s mind.
The power, Rook’s words echo in her mind, don’t belong with us. She sees it now.
”I will try to protect you.” Hypatia was, above all us, a protector. ”But I cannot protect you from yourself. From what you can do now. I want my people safe from your hunger.”
Saphira could understand that. Or had the greed consumed her already?
A falcon flies overhead, and for a moment, Hypatia swears it’ll turn into Pirate.
