Simon smiled despite the bleak scenery around him; it was a pursed and forced smile that secretly advertised his faint discomfort with the white stallion. The horse was alien to him, and when he replied so quickly Simon realized that it was true – despite it being dark (and now the dawn slowly breaks across the horizon) it was uncanny that the silence that enveloped them was so oppressing.

Whether or not it had anything to do with the horse in front of him, Simon didn’t want to know.

He tried his best to ignore his unease, instead focusing on the strange stallion’s element, which rumbled around him. Simon’s Air was tense, his Earth geared and expectant. He fancied that the stallion was ready to pounce any moment, yet incredulously, he seemed perfectly still. Simon stared warily at the stallion, unsure of what to expect. His very name seemed formidable to the young horse.

When he was asked such a question, Simon was careful not to take it as a genuine concern for what he was doing – he suspected some motive behind the question and he shifted, flicking an ear backwards as he listened. Severus’ voice was beguiling enough, Simon felt almost drawn to it like a fly to honey. “Nothing. I don’t know.” He sighed, his eyes cast to the shadows behind Severus – to the forest.

“I get bored of Solira sometimes. I can’t explain it.” He then realized it was strange, he had never seen Severus before. “Is this where you live?”

I feel that a man is a very important thing – maybe even more important than a star. This is not theology. I have no bent toward gods. But I have a new love for that glittering instrument, the human soul. It is a lovely and unique thing in the universe. It is always attacked and never destroyed – because “Thou mayest”.
