But here she stood in his presence again, like that damnable tick that manages to dig in right in the one places nobody can reach, drinking itself silly until it drops off on its own. This time, at least, she didn’t carry herself like a mindless fool – but that didn’t make him any more gracious. Severus shrugged off her winds with the effortlessness of long practice, snubbing her in the angle of his head and the distant look in his colorless eyes. If only it was that easy. But she was looking at his neck, at the weeping star carved so haphazardly into the soft flesh of his throat and at the dark, dried blood tracing brown stripes down his pale coat. Damn her curiosity – she had the mind of a spy, and every moment she spent invading his space he became more certain of where that mind came from. He curled a lip, giving up on his stubborn silence. “Severus.” Compared to her polite greeting, he seemed crude indeed – but then again, seeing as he actually offered her his name and didn’t rattle off some insult, perhaps he was being sociable indeed (at least when compared with his own behavior). Fortunately for Fenrisulfr his own boredom won out, and the white stallion chose not to simply walk away a second time. She at least had avoided all mention of his…sparkling (he’d looked over himself very thoroughly – there were no sparkles) and contented herself with more conventional topics like proper introductions. He imagined that if she’d asked him how he was doing, though, he would have spit in her face. What an odd pair to be sharing words in the forest. “You didn’t come here to prattle on about the state of my coat.” How dull it was to simply ask someone why they were there. Besides, Severus was sure she was smart enough to figure out what he wanted to know.
