Simon moved like a wraith, his hooves carrying him aimlessly across the snowbanks. He navigated the breaches of snow and ice and wove around pitfalls mindlessly. The sun had yet to pierce the oppressing blanket of fog, and Simon moved in hardly anything more than twilight darkness.
He heard a muffled footfall before he saw the horse – his ears perked as he watched and waited expectantly for the beast to emerge from the gloom. His breath came in slowly, but an ounce of trepidation could be deciphered from his breathing rate. He took a step towards the sound, flinching slightly as a white stallion emerged from the darkness. He assessed him warily, his small mouth pressed and his ears perked forwards on his dainty skull.
“It’s dark this morning. Even the sparrows daren’t sing.” He said worriedly as an ice-breaker, noticing that besides the raucous call of the sparrows, not a grackel or squirrel offered its scolding insight onto the winter wonderland. “I’m afraid it’s too early for them.” His Air stirred quietly at his feet, parting the fog slightly to better view the white horse before him.
“I’m Simon. Who are you?”
I feel that a man is a very important thing – maybe even more important than a star. This is not theology. I have no bent toward gods. But I have a new love for that glittering instrument, the human soul. It is a lovely and unique thing in the universe. It is always attacked and never destroyed – because “Thou mayest”.
