Severus on October 28, 2008, 6:16 pm, in reply to "i'm in yer bubble, eatin' your pink frilliez; severus" The last time they had crossed paths, Nyota had been but a child and Severus a walking corpse, trying desperately like a cornered animal to scar everything in his reach before the curse of his ill-fated youth claimed his life. For his part the young oracle had been a failure, a tool for the torment of Requiem that had turned on him like a circus animal might turn on its handler. He didn’t know how she had seen it, nor did he care. Severus tries his best to distance himself from his failures. Obviously, his failures offered no such consideration for him. Things had changed; Nyota wasn’t a wet-behind-the-ears weanling feigning grace and wisdom any longer – she had grown into those things as she aged and experienced both hardship and happiness. He could see it in the way she carried herself, barely visible, through the winter-bare trees, ignoring her own self-admonitions with dogged determination. The Wraith should have let her pass by with nary a whisper of the wind for her trouble, but he could not deny the simple fact that he was intrigued by her decision to come. The pale beast was as much transformed as she, sleek and willowy now with lean and healthy muscle instead of skin clinging tightly to his bony frame. If he was still too thin for the average horse…well, some scars are more than a simple stitch in the flesh. Keeping sight of her proved difficult. Camouflage served its purpose well, so instead he shadowed her by ear alone – no amount of clever coloration could mask the crunch of fallen leaves or the snap of a hidden twig. There, the wind was very much his ally, for he stepped lightly and willed the rustling wind to conceal his movements, proceeding undetected just out of Nyota’s sight. Thus it was that when Nyota arrived in the clearing, Severus was waiting for her, angular face drawn in the barest of cryptic smiles. Instantly he knew what must be said, remembering Requiem with a distant internal sneer. “I told you he never really loved you.” The Wraith knew Nyota would know exactly what he was talking about. - the wraith.
