This came in July 3rd from Bob's widow about their son Scott.
All -
Thank you for your inquiries about Scott's condition. We are in the fifth month now of his illness, and Scott is now on a 6 month state disability leave from work. Here is the latest.
The doctor from Stanford called Scott yesterday with the results of all the tests from his June 25th appointment at Stanford. All tests came back "negative" which means they still don't know what is Scott's ailment. Even some of the tests which had shown positive before are now showing negative! (Baffling indeed) The doctor is suspicious that it may be a nasty virus that just won't leave. He has asked Scott to wean himself off the morphine and steroids completely (not good for him), track the level of pain and stiffness he is feeling as time goes on, and report back to him in another week or so with his progress. Don't know when the next appt at Stanford will be, depending upon what research the doctor comes up with, or the level of pain and aching Scott is feeling from the lack of meds. Scott has authorized Stanford to use his case for research purposes. The only med Scott is to remain on now is a type of anti-inflammatory - I don't know the name of it. If needed, the Stanford doctor will give Scott a different kind of pain reliever.
We are relieved, and yet frustrated at the same time in that we don't have answers yet, except that many awful diseases have been ruled out completely (cancer, MS, lupis, lyme disease, parvo, rhumatoid arthritis, etc. etc.). Scott remains in positive thinking, his own advocate, and just knows we will find the answer at some future point. I just hope and pray that Scott does not become dibilitated in pain and stiffness in his joints like he was before once he is off the meds. We don't want him to end up back in the hospital again.
Please continue to keep Scott in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much. I will keep you all updated as I learn more.
Hugs, and love to all.
Kerin
