Well, today was a WOW. You never know what will happen next. Ten am, surgery a day early. Twelve pm , surgery off. Three pm surgery postponed until next week.
As you may know, many children in Mexico have suffered an explosion in a day care center. Several of these children have been sent to UCD Burn Center. Jason has been moved to another location, still within the UCD med center, and his doctors are quite involved with the children in Mexico. As a matter of fact, his burn doctor that did his hand left today to help triage the burn unit in Mexico.
Jason understood the circumstances and agreed with his doctors but at the same time, I think he was a bit down about his surgery to free his only remaining appendage from his stomach. On the flip side, this gives his hand that much more time for the graft "to take" and insure a positive recovery.
He was not allowed to eat all day due to the up coming surgery, so tonight as we left, he was munching on Doritos and Rootbeer and was in heaven. A power chair has been ordered for him so please watch the news for some crazy person doing wheelies in the parking lot.
Another ray of sunshine today was, the prosthetist visited him and brought him his FIRST prosthetic mold for the right hand. A door closes, a door opens . A dear friend wrote: Where does the strength come from to see a race to the end—it comes from within.
We thank all of you for continuing to keep us in your loop, we know we are not alone, and it is very comforting. Our race is a lengthy one but one we can win. The surgery will take place whenever the doctor returns so we will keep you updated. Hang in there with us, please, we have come to count on you. Love, the joes
