I was shocked when I opened by door last Friday at the Argonaut Hotel across from the Hyde Street Pier in San Francisco. I expected the morning Chronicle, but instead received the New York Times.
First the Chron circulation manager told the San Luis Obispo distributor they wold have to drive up to the Bay Area to pick up the Chronicle. The owner said no-way, so the Fresno Bee took over some of the Chrons news racks.
Then last Saturday I ran into the local distributor who said the Sunday Chronicle will again be sold in San Luis Obispo County. I haven't checked to see if those newsracks are empty during the week, but is this anyway to run a newspaper?
