Sattui's grandfather used to call him "Dario", the Italian version of Darryl, or Daryl as Sattui spelled it. Before being named "California Businessman of the Year" by the Native Sons of Italy, Sattui changed his name to Dario.
In accepting the award he had to miss his annual V. Sattui Harvest Ball in St. Helena, but drove back from Sacramento to catch the last hour after midnight. His wife Yana was so enamored with her luxury suite in a Sacramento Hotel that she stayed behind. Dario had to drive back in the morning to pick her up.
