Surgery #5 done!!!!!!!! Jason had an Abdominal Flap to Hand Surgery this morning and is resting comfortably tonight. His team of doctors said the surgery went great, much as expected.
His left hand is now stitched to his stomach and will be for approximately 2 weeks. Movement is minimal, visitors are not advised , rest is essential.
We have acquired many, many movies for him for the next few weeks. We would expect him to revert to cartoons before too long. Everyone will use this time to prepare him for prostheses on the other 3 limbs .
Kathy's sense of humor keeps us all in perspective and giggling a lot! She reads emails to him every day, they laugh, reminice, but since he is very limited, he doesn't answer many.
Please know that he knows when you send an email, he enjoys them, but can't respond and hesitates to ask anyone else to do for him. He is very independent and wants to do for himself, thank you very much! We don't argue. The stitches, and cut away of the tissue is scheduled for June 10, but you know how schedules go. If you say to him June 10th, he'll shoot for the 9th!
Thank you to so many of you that have inquired about the Kiwanis House and the Burn Unit. They appreciate all of your support as do we. Joe is playing golf Sunday in a fund raised for the Kiwanis House. We are overwhelmed with your good wishes, prayers, food, flowers, emails, CD's, books, ...I could go on and on. One OLD guy even offered jobs around the house. Now there's a REAL man!
I asked Joe to stay late at the hospital and have a friend come take over the chores! Daniel and his family are here and a tremendous help. I really lucked out, two daughters-in-law who help me and support the family.
Jay will need to be very quiet for the next few weeks, something he has never been good at, altho now he realizes the importance of quiet and healing. Thank you all for getting us to this day. Love to each and everyone of you. The Joes
