Well today (May 14th) is a wonderful day. Thank you to so many of you for your prayers because today they paid off! Jason had his first bath in a long time due to the donor sites and surgeries. This doesn't seem like much to you but to someone in the burn center this is huge!
Not only that, but Kathy had him in a wheelchair for the first time ever and took him outside to feel the fresh air, bask in the warm sunshine, and listen to the world around him. To us, it was reminiscent of when he was 15 and took the car for the first time. We were scared to death then and now we are hesitant to injure his feet. But we are good wheelchair drivers and returned him to his room unscathed.
He works very hard at all the physical therapy, if anything we have to hold him back rather than go too fast and injure himself. Kathy sets the pace for all of us, he seems to be more gentle with her than anyone, perhaps because she knows him best at this point. We, the joes, are always available to offer FREE advice, but it seems everyone knows best and we come home giving each other FREE advice.
Imagine a free spirit who treks the world with yak herdsman in China, African villagers, Cuban detainees, South Pole explorers, and Polar Ice, Greenland Summit Camp workers, being wheeled outside for the first time in a month. It is a wonderful day. We continue our vigil of his feet, but each day gives us hope. We send our love, the joes
