I spoke to Bob just before he left Oregon. He was so proud of Dave Roberts driving all the way up to Ashland and then driving him back down to the central coast to be with his son in Paso Robles.
He thanked me for the 8x10 color print of him at a Rat Line tailgate with Fred Ackers, Krazy George, Satch Carlson and myself. (the last two are not shown on our Blog page). I even include the score of this 1999 Stanford game—SJS 44, Stanford 39—above the caption. It was mailed to him inside a copy of our last issue before the party at A.J. and Charlene Laymon's, but it must have taken the Postal Service too long to cross the state line.
I promised him I'd be up this week, but a fire sprinkler head in our building in Morro Bay had been leaking for about 5 years, and sometime this last week the ceiling fell-in. Luckily it was in our storage room.
Bob also told me he was friends again with Kerin, and it felt good be with his family in these last days of his life. I hope Kerin and his son and daughter learn this if he hadn't already told them.
His stay in Paso Robles was shorter than both he and I believed it would be.
AJ's disk of photos taken by Lee Junta arrived two days ago. Some will be printed in this summer's SJS Rat Line.
