Just got this from Gibbons. Lynda has been talking to Jo about this for a few days. Our wishes go to the Gibbons family that their son saves most of his fingers and toes.
Hello to all and many, many thanks for you support, your positive thoughts for recovery, your love and your prayers!!! Jake, as many of you know him, and his wonderful wife Kathy arrived by air Medi-vac from Greenland to Sacramento on Friday morning at approximately 12:30 AM. They arrived in good shape but tired and now are located at the U. C. Davis Medical Center in downtown Sacramento.
Jake is in the Burn Unit which specializes in both burn and frost-bite injuries. We have see his frost-bite for the first time and it is clear that he will have some troubles. His injuries are severe on both hands and feet. He is working very hard, with exercise, to try to make sure that the doctors will be able to save as much tissue as possible. Unfortunately, it does appear that he is likely to lose several parts and that outcome will not be sure for approximate two or three weeks.
He is scheduled for exploratory surgery this Monday the 27th where will the surgeons will begin the process of identifying the good tissue from the bad and removing the tissue that could cause him problems with infection. The areas most at risk are his toes on both feet and his right hand. As the surgeries progress we will send out short e-mails to keep you all up to date as much as possible.
Thank you again for your love, prayers and thoughts!! Jason truly has a wonderful set of friends and admirers. Kathy spends an hour or so each day reading his e-mail messages to him and he smiles, chuckles and tells stories about the memories you mention and the additional memories that your notes bring to his mind. As a parent, it is heart warming to see his cheer as he remembers the great times he has enjoyed with all of you. Thank you so much for your LOVE!!
I will close for now and plan on sending a new update mid-week as we see the results of Monday's surgery.
We send our love and thanks to all of you!!
The joes
