Re: Caroline Southhampton Support Groep meeting: engineering update Alan
Hi Peter,It was an interesting meeting with Alan, but not a great deal was learnt. He stated that the transmitter running 4Kw was using one aerial, and the smaller power was using another, what ever that means to you Peter. It was stated that the large array will not be used, as it was to costly and difficult to deal with, and not suitable. There will not be a power increase for some time,as it requires legislation and does not come under Community Radio.Ofcom are talking about a reschedule of the MW band at some point, but we are probably talking 5 Years away as per the above as well.Alan was not sure if we could stay on MW in the mean while, but he hoped that we could. When i asked Alan about any band plan in the future and he said yes that he had read it, and heard of it. The idea although it is only talk at present is that DRM,will be at one end of the band and AM at the other, should they move on this, and the radios would come from India, or China, or possibly Switzerland. It would seem that the top end of MW would be used for DRM.There seems no point in developing a new Digital standard, as a manufacturer would need to produce millions of sets, the market does not look this big, but DRM is already out there in the World.Rgds Mike
