On the 27th July 2023 2RN took down the radio transmission mast in Clarkstown in Meath.
The Clarkstown mast was built in the late 1980’s for Atlantic 252 (a joint venture between RTE & Radio Luxembourg) and was c. 248m tall. After Atlantic 252 shut down in 2001 a channel called TeamTalk operated for a very short time, and it was then used for RTÉ Radio 1 from 2004 until it was shut down earlier this year.
The site played important role in the development and transmission of Irish radio services over its lifetime, but time, corrosion, and technology do not stand still and there are now many more environmentally friendly, efficient, effective, and better sound quality methods for listeners to receive their preferred radio and audio services.
2RN would like to thank all the dedicated riggers and engineers that maintained and operated the transmission site over its lifetime.2RN would also like to thank the many people that live and farm in the areas adjacent to the site for their help and cooperation over the years. Finally 2RN would like to thank the team that brought the structure safely to the ground.
