I lived (still do) miles away from where the radio ships were anchored but we did know that Radio Caroline North was on her way to the Isle of Man.
Now, being in our early teens, we thought it would be a great idea to borrow my friend's Dad's clinker built 14 foot rowing boat and head out into the Irish sea to intercept her!
Before doing so we had to find out where she was so armed with a 27mhz walkie-talkie, a pair of binoculars and a transistor radio one of the gang headed up the local "mountain".
The huge signal from the ship meant that it was impossible to get any sort of heading and the cloud base made any visual location a no no.
Sadly the idea went out the window when the boat owner found out about our antics, removed the oars and rowlocks and padlocked the boat chain to it's mooring.
There endeth my adventure and a trip to Radio Caroline North.
