The main reason I favour LW is it's not easy to TX on, so will certainly be of no cash value, so why not allow non political no advertising 'Hobby music Radio' there? MW is a good option too, particularly as the Commercials will soon abandon it. I know Absolute and Global can't wait to leave MW completely, and the others (BBC) will follow as soon as possible. So we may as well have that all to ourselves too. The Dutch Free Radios love the old Trawler band, so why not let them stay there and enjoy their type of free hobby radio? It hurts no one, and poses no interference risks to today's predominately VHF / UHF mainstream 'legal' users. It would also be sensible to remain in the old conventional 'AM' broadcasting bands, and never go in the Military and other areas. The little Mosquito MW rigs would be a good rig for 'Hobby Radio' use.
I would guess that Ofcom would like to soon clear VHF band 2 of analogue and the VHF pirates, so band 2 can be sold to the highest bidder when analogue FM gets its final shut down date. VHF Band 2 (clear of anything) must be worth billions!!! So by giving the VHF Pirates a MW / LW option totally removes their 'argument' for staying in Band 2. That's why the FCC (USA) now allows Hobby Radio on LW. It's used by 'Lowfers', and they are looking towards less power / antenna restrictions as it all works very well. Everyone can 'do their thing'. Regards, David LW
