Your mention of Metro Radio takes me back to fond memories of a holiday in Northumberland in 1980. At the time I didn't think any other ILR would touch my local - Piccadilly, but Metro certainly did - the vibe was brilliant. I can remember Paddy MacDee being on around late morning/ lunchtime and there was a phone in for around an hour hosted by a rather opinionated guy (their version of Piccadilly's Colin Walters!), where you could discuss any subject. They also used the instrumental part of John Miles' Music at the top of each hour - happy days!
As for 208, my memories are mainly late '70s/early '80s so Tony Prince introducing the new Power Plays and the great Bob Stewart stick in the mind.
A couple of Radio City (Liverpool) jocks went out there - Rob Jones and the late Dave Eastwood - but Dave needn't have bothered as he was given the early evening slot during the summer, too early for his show to be heard at all in the UK!
