I would say my first real memories would be around Summer 71 or 72, on holiday at my grandmother's in Felixstowe. Transistor radio on the pillow, and somehow off the bottom stop of the volume, she could still hear it!
Our ILR, station, Radio Orwell, once it came on in 76, I think was in it's "All things to all men" phase so weekday evenings could be, Jazz, Classical or a gardening talk show! So not a viable alternative.
I think I remember Rosko on there, but dates off Google imply he was there earlier. Bob Stewart Had that great voice. Am I remembering Benny Brown? I did like Stuart Henry.
I do remember not liking the banality of many of the records. Bay City Rollers and so on. Again, like Laser, you had to admire its energy, even if you weren't totally in tune with the music.
I certainly remember us all much preferring Caroline when it was on. I wonder if that actually contributed towards the special-ness of Caroline. You never took it for granted, as you'd switch it on sometimes and it wasn't there.
Don't let that veer you off topic, but that was why I'd listen to Luxy in the late 70's.
