The Optimod used in the Eighties on the Ross was the 9100, which is a Six band unit, so would be a bit overkill now
to add to 648, as the main one at the TX is also a multiband. Caroline has a digital Optimod as well
Because recordings vary in volume, and frequency balance, and presenters remote feeds also, its a good idea to have preprocessing, at studio end, before it goes out to the TX
The idea with processing is Consistency, which means different recordings, should all sound as good as they can be
If a good recording is followed with a poor 60's loud recording, the processor needs to tame back the loud noisy bits, and rebalance it so it sounds OK, yes, this is not Hi-fi, but its nots supposed to be, it needs to sound good, not be an accurate playing of the track, that was poorly recorded in the 60's
As several have said on here, Caroline sounds better than most other stations, If the TV optimod could be relocated
so its in all the while, would be excellent
When you look at it as a whole, they have done a good job of getting 648 on, well done to all.
