The trouble with short aerials is the poor bandwidth, This was on 603Khz,
if you look at Pic of ship, can see some boxes, (far left of Pic)
these were the "tuning boxes"
As aerial was far too short, and top set of guys, used as capacity hat, were not long enough,
and too steep, John Mullaney's solution, was to add Capacitance to the lower end of them
Hence the Boxes. In practice also inductor as well as Vacuum Cap. in each box
2 boxes to start with, but found it was directional, so done with 4 boxes
When Caroline used the ship later, this not used
